Danielle Houston is one to watch in the Canadian beauty scene! This entrepreneur creates colourful, cruelty-free products with antioxidants like Vitamin E. Instead of using parabens and fragrances, she uses natural sweet smelling vanillin extract.

What do you do?

I’m the owner and creative director of a Canadian makeup brand, BY DANILEA. This brand is made up of two lines, LIPS and STAGE. LIPS is a lip line for the everyday #unapologeticallybold beauty and STAGE is a service backed makeup line specializing in customized makeup kits for performance teams. As the sole owner of this company, I wear many hats, and love the variety that this provides in my day to day. Through every task I do, however, I live by the mantra better an oops than a what if?

What drives you?

I think it would be difficult to pinpoint one singular driver of my work. Every day is different, and I find myself motivated by various people, energies, and goals. But I think my dreams are my biggest motivator. I envision a brand that empowers men and woman, alike, to step out of their comfort zone, to trust their intuition and to take risks. I envision a life that I have designed for myself and at its core makes me happy. And I also envision a brand that generates work opportunities for other creatives, I believe in building your local economy and dreaming bigger than just yourself.

How would you describe your personal style in three words?

Recycled. Neutral. Edgy.

Do you read your horoscope? (how often) and who is your favourite astrologer?

Yes! I wouldn’t say it’s a daily ritual but as often as I can find the opportunity to slow down, sit and read it, I will. Up until recently, I was a horoscope.com type of gal, but now that I have been introduced to the world of modern astrologers, there’s no going back! I really enjoy reading daily horoscopes, because sometimes I find I can’t think much more outside of that specific day. So daily horoscopes, are super relatable for me. I love feeling the ah-ha moment, when life and horoscope connect. Right now, I am following Annabel Gat of Broadly for my most up to date daily scope.

What positive aspects do you like about your sign?

I love that being a Cancer has given me the imagination that has allowed me to follow the path I have and that every dream never seems too big or unattainable. I also really appreciate the relationships I have kept through my loyalty to my friendships, I have never had a problem with keeping in touch, which I am very grateful for.

What negative aspects do you dislike about your sign?

I dislike how my emotions get in the way of decisions, criticism, and stress. I also struggle with self-doubt and fear, which drive me crazy because I know that’s all it is. I have chosen to not let this direct but rather fuel me to the things that are scary because you can be sure they will be the most rewarding.
