Louise Mangalino is the owner and co-creator of Burger Pawty, a chic burger business that infuses unexpected colour, refined taste and a certain “specialness” into an otherwise saturated market. Louise knows more than a few things about burgers too! She’s been running her food and fashion blog Burgers and Barbie$, which captures some of this pastel princess’s cool outfits and burger adventures since 2010. I first met Louise at Burger Pawty 3.0, where she collaborated with Untitled & Co and Neue Wilden on 3 delicious and cool looking burgers!
This Libra definitely has a more than a thing for pastels (check out her IG accounts @BurgerPawty and @BurgersxBarbies, with her moon in Virgo and a Capricorn Ascendant, she’s hard working and sensitive to what people are looking for in a truly stunning burger.
What do you do?
I work at an office during the day, I run my burger blog, BURGERS AND BARBIE$, and I’m also the HBIC (Head Barbie in Charge) of Burger Pawty!
What inspired you to start Burger Pawty?
Burger Pawty has always been a dream of mine… it just didn’t have a name yet. When I started my burger blog, the places I went to didn’t really entice me creatively. I teamed up with Jessica for Burger Pawty because we wanted to showcase a different approach to burgers. What if I could have a burger done my way? What would it look like? Thus, The OG Barbie Burger was born.
Being two females in a male-driven industry, we knew that this event had to be an ode to women. We rounded up an all-female lineup for the event, which consisted of a butcher, a DJ, a sweet maker, photo booth owners/operators, and then some! We even had a mini gallery at our event, showcasing local female artists and their work.
The results exceeded our expectations by a mile, and after the inaugural Burger Pawty, we got a few interesting offers to cater special events that we just couldn’t refuse… and the requests haven’t stopped since!
How do you infuse fashion into Hamburgers?
I love that you ask this because I feel that’s exactly what Burger Pawty is… fashionable burgers! I’ve got to make sure that not only do our burgers taste delicious, and that they look pretty, too! I’m a visual person and I’m aware that most people eat with their eyes first, so I like to keep that in mind! Visually, I make sure that each burger has the right balance of colour, tone and ingredients that would make the consumer want to need to take a photo of the burger before taking a bite. I’ve been told that my burgers are too pretty to eat at times!
Are you an astrology believer?
Yes! Although I don’t read my horoscope on the daily, I’m a spiritual person and believe that astrology has a lot to do with who we are as a person.
Have you ever had a day when your horoscope was dead on?
More often than not, I can relate to my horoscopes. It’s never been too far off. There were a few days where they were dead on and I’ve kept screen shots of them.
How often do you check your horoscope?
Whenever I can! I’m usually too busy to keep up with it on a regular basis, but as soon as I get the chance to, I like to see what’s up. I’m more of a daily horoscope kind of reader. I do, though, read the year-at-a-glance horoscope before the New Year just to see what I’ll potentially be in for.
